So many people from Redwood Heights, as well as from up Redwood Road and Skyline Blvd. all need a local grocery store to buy groceries. The employees are very helpful, but the store is clearly inadequate for the neighborhood and cannot provide the services (e.g. deli, seafood counter) and variety that are needed. We think the plans for a new store are outstanding and we hope that the city moves the proposal through the planning process as quickly as possible. The fact that Safeway is willing to invest millions in Oakland is terrific and the traffic issues raised with respect to other stores do not seem to apply to this location. In short, build it. As for the businesses in & around the existing Lincoln Square. Well there are plenty of other mall that show examples of how they can all work together for the greater good. That is my belief. It's difficult to navigate and difficult to load your groceries (one hand or foot holding on to the cart at all times). Also, the architecture will be a jewel on the hill and will update our neighborhood. It also seems that the size is not oversized for the property.
